Very early this year, I decided to refocus this site and my work. In 2017, I focused on completing my workshop so that I could handle some projects that my friends and family requested. Most of that work was completed in November, but health concerns have grounded me temporarily.
On October 14, 2017 I had my right knee scoped to clean up a torn meniscus. In November, I began having some alarming digestive issues that needed attention. Later that same month, I had an MRI of my left ankle that revealed that it was pretty badly damaged. So, instead of focusing on building new projects, my focus has shifted to getting healthy. Therefore, on February 14, 2018, I have major reconstructive surgery on my left ankle.
This ankle figures to ground me for several months. As of this writing, I am still non-weight bearing in a cast. My surgeon will remove the cast and put me in a boot on March 1, 2018 and therapy will start sometime after that. Right now, I have no idea what therapy will involve but have been told that it will be 2-3 months before I will be able to walk without aid (in the form of crutches or an ankle brace). It will be 2-3 months after that before the ankle is completely healed.
2018 Planned Projects:
All this to say that I have not given up this concept. As soon as I am able to bear weight (albeit in a boot), I will be outside preparing for spring and summer gardening. We also have plans to do some remodeling in the house which will require some new builds. By the end of the year, we also would love to have a new top on our dining room table.
Unfortunately, surgery recovery is going to slow me drastically, so I have no timelines for any of our projects other than to say they WILL get done…eventually!
In the meantime
In the meantime, I will be working on some smaller projects to keep my creative juices flowing, etc. During my sick leave, I am working on three scale models: F/A-18E Super Hornet, F-22 Raptor and the USS Missouri (Mighty Mo). These scale models will keep occupied while I am convalescing. After these, who knows, but I’ve kicked around the idea of doll houses or something similar.
As always, I’ll be posting updates to this site as time permits (and I remember to do so).
